Overview
The Addinell Hewson photographs of surgery patients is a small collection of seven photographs, dating between 1861 and 1865, and including tumors, fractures, and amputations.Addinell Hewson was born in 1828 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in 1850. This collection of x-rays was discovered in the Mütter Museum storage area and inventoried in 2006. It was transferred to the Library on September 22, 2016.All of the x-rays seem to be of specimens found in the Mütter Museum, including the Soap Lady, and fetuses with defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly. No provenance information could be found; however, many of the envelopes note that the x-rays were taken by Dr. Gerald Conlogue in 1991. It is likely that all...

This collection consists of photographs, negatives, pencil drawings, and other images related to Dr. Oscar Batson's work. It was donated to the Mütter Museum by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Batson, along with numerous medical instruments and pathological specimens. The collection of photographs was transferred to the Library on September 22, 2016.
