Overview
The American Hospital of Paris was founded in 1906. Seven years later the United States Congress recognized the hospital under Title 36 of the United States Code on January 30, 1913. During World War I in March 1918, the French government decreed the hospital to be "an institution of public benefit", authorizing it to receive donations.[1] The hospital is now the only civilian hospital in Europe accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), an independent organization that accredits hospitals in the United States; it is also accredited by France's Haute Autorité de santé (HAS).

The American Hospital of Paris case records is a small collection dating to 1915. It holds not only case records of patients, but also a 14-page journal entry from an unidentified doctor about their daily tasks on 20 June 1915, and a pencil sketch of an unidentified man.
The case records are arranged alphabetically by the patient’s last name. Each records contains the patient’s name and age, their injury or illness, treatment, diagnosis, and whether they lived or died. The majority of the patients were French soldiers serving in World War I. Some entries also includes patient/family medical histories, profession, education level, and military assignments. Researchers interested in medical treatment during World War I in France will find this collection especially fascinating, as will those interested in learning about the actual people who served in the war.
Previously catalogued as 10a 487.
