Scope and Contents
           
             Volume relates history of the Netherlands from era of Gallic tribes to 16th century. Also included are
Bache’s Geographical sketch of Spain and maps of the Netherlands, Spain, and Andalusia. Includes

Biographical / Historical
           
             Thomas Hewson Bache, Philadelphia physician, was born on 16 Sept. 1826. He received his M.D. from
Jefferson Medical College in 1850. Bache died on 8 July 1912. Bache served his residency at
Pennsylvania Hospital (18521853)
and was Surgeon to the 17th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers,
during the Civil War. He was Attending Physician, Manager, and Treasurer at the Children’s Hospital of
Philadelphia and Director and VicePresident
at the Pennsylvania Institution for the Deaf and Dumb.
Bache was elected to fellowship in the College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1852.
