Scope and Contents
           
             This small collection of letters was assembled by Benjamin W. 
Austin, often functioning as secretary of the Trinity Historical 
Society in Dallas, Texas, 1885-1894.  The letters are from physicians, 
several of them eclectic or homeopathic, accepting honorary 
or non resident membership in the society and responding to 
Austin's request for autographs, photographs, and pamphlets. 
 Some biographical data is included.

             Benjamin W. Austin was Secretary of the Northwestern Literary and Historical Society of Sioux City, Iowa, and later of the Trinity Historical Society of Oak Cliff and Dallas, Texas.              The Benjamin W. Austin autograph collection was purchased for 
the Historical Collections of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia 
from David J. Holmes Autographs, of Philadelphia, Pa., on 22 
April 1986.
The individual letters were originally catalogued in the Autograph Collection. The collection was reassembled and recatalogued in 1992.
