Scope and Contents
Holograph description of personality and character traits of George L. Moore based on phrenological examination by O. S. Fowler, 12 July 1841. Character reading written by Fowler on blank leaves of first edition of Fowler’s practical phrenology (1840); several marginal notes concerning Moore written by Fowler in text.
Entitled "Fowler's practical phrenology : : giving a concise elementary view of phrenology, presenting some new and important remarks upon the temperaments, and describing the primary mental powers in seven different degrees of development, the mental phenomena produced by their combined action, and the location of the organs, amply illustrated by cuts : also the phrenological developments, together with the character and talents, of Geo. L. Moore : holograph, / as given by O. S. Fowler."

Biographical / Historical
Orson Squire Fowler, phrenologist, was born on 11 Oct. 1809 in Cohocton, N.Y. He was married three times. He died on 18 Aug. 1887 in Sharon Station, Conn. Fowler graduated from Amherst College in 1834. With his brother, Lorenzo N. Fowler, he published the Phrenological almanac and edited the Phrenological journal and miscellany. From 1844 to 1863, Fowler and his brother were part of a phrenological publishing firm, Fowlers and Wells. After leaving the firm in 1863, O. S. Fowler went to, first, Boston, then Manchester, Mass.
