Notes taken by Russell Murdoch on the lectures of J. L. Cabell in the Department of Medicine of the University of Virginia, 1860 Oct. 3-1861 Apr. 1. Subjects of the lectures are comparative anatomy, histology, and human physiology. Review or study questions are interspersed with the lecture notes. A few pages of rough notes included.

Biographical / Historical
Russell Murdoch, Baltimore ophthalmologist, was born on 12 Feb. 1839. He married in 1873 and had four daughters. Murdoch died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 19 Mar. 1905. Murdoch received an M.D. from the University of Virginia in 1861. He was Resident Physician to the Baltimore Almshouse and Attending Physician to the Baltimore General Dispensary. During the Civil War, he was a surgeon with the Confederate army. After the war, Murdoch lectured on diseases of the eye and ear at the University of Maryland and was Professor of Ophthalmology and Otology at the Woman's Medical College of Baltimore. He was also a founder of and surgeon at the Baltimore Eye, Ear, and Throat Charity Hospital.
