Biographical / Historical
George Murray Paterson, Scottish physician and phrenologist, received an M.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1817; his thesis concerned mania. He went to India in 1821 and was a surgeon with the East India Company. Paterson was a member of the Edinburgh Phrenological Society, the Asiatic Society, and a founder of the Calcutta Phrenological Society.
