John Harper Girvin was born in Philadelphia in 1869. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1892. Girvin was the Physician for Diseases of Women, and later was given the position of Gynecologist-in-Chief, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was elected a Fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1897, and served as Clerk of the Gynecological Section of the College as well as Secretary. John Hunter FRS (13 February 1728 – 16 October 1793) was a Scottish surgeon, one of the most distinguished scientists and surgeons of his day. He was an early advocate of careful observation and scientific method in medicine. He was a teacher of, and collaborator with, Edward Jenner, pioneer of the smallpox vaccine. This small collection of John I. McGuigan material, 18991935, contains correspondence, accounts and bills from McGuigan's guardianship of Julius T. Lentz and John E.
