The records of the Sydenham Medical Coterie span the duration
of its existence, from 1870 to 1980, and give a reasonably complete
account of its proceedings and activities.The organizational records of the Coterie (Series 1) contain the
original manuscript constitution, adopted in 1870 with emendations
to 1873. Bound with the constitution is the socalled "black
list" (ca.1873-1896), a record of patients who were delinquent

Scope and Contents
The collection, 1849-1863, contains minute books, reports, a
cashbook, and some miscellaneous financial papers, including
receipts, a list of securities, and a draft of the 1859
extension of the deed of trust, documenting the decisions,
investments, labors, and fund raising activities of the
Trustees of the Building Fund of the College of Physicians
of Philadelphia. Most of this material was produced by
George Bacon Wood, as chairman of the trustees, or George
Fox; as treasurer.

Samuel X Radbill (1901-1987) began his medical career as a general practitioner in 1926 and became a pediatrician in 1938, when he was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Radbill was perhaps better known as a medical historian, and collector of bookplates and old and rare medical texts than as a pediatrician.
