Arthur M. Dannenberg, Sr., born in Philadelphia on 7 January 1891, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1913. He served an internship at the Jewish Hospital of Philadelphia — now the Albert Einstein Medical Center (AEMC) — and then volunteered for service in the Medical Corps of the United States Army.
