The Collection contains a single volume, 1862-1919, originally used as a patient register for wounded U.S. Civil War soldiers recovering at Philadelphia (Pa.) area military and civilian hospitals. It was later used as a scrapbook for newspaper clippings. The patient register is in the handwriting of wartime nurse Hiram J. Noyes. The wounded are listed by hospital, but there are multiple lists for each hospital in no identifiable order. There is no index. Among the hospitals included are St....

The collection, 1856-1888, contains five daybooks and four ledgers, documenting the medical practice and career of E. A. Santee at Lehman, Shickshinny, Hollenback, Hobbie, and Wapwallopen, in Luzerne County, Pa. Included are some notes and recipes from Jefferson Medical College. Also included are some cash accounts and a ledger of farming accounts of John Santee.

George Joseph Hermann was born in 1873 in Newport, Kentucky, and graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in 1894. In April 1895, he set up his own practice in Newport, Kentucky. Hermann operated as the general physician for Newport, and later served on the Board of Trustees for Speers Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and taught anatomy at the Nurses’ Training School of Speers Hospital. the Hanover County medical practice of Hermann B. Anderson.
The ledgers list patients, reason for visit, and settlement
of account. An index to account names is included in each volume.
Two of the ledgers contain farm accounts for the years 1889-1890 and 1897-1901,
and one contains a separate section for "Negro accounts", 1895.
