Samuel Hadden papers

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 368

Overview

The Samuel Hadden Papers contain the personal papers of Dr. Samuel Bernard Hadden (1900-1988). Born in Dunmore, PA Dr. Hadden completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Pennsylvania. He then served his internship and residency at the Philadelphia General Hospital. He pursued his interest in neuro-psychology, earning attention for his work in group psychotherapy. While Dr. Hadden was regarded as a compassionate therapist,... his views on the treatment of male homosexual clients are controversial as he found homosexuality to be an "experientially determined and treatable condition." The collection contains assorted awards and certificates; papers written by Dr. Hadden; notes; and portraits. An oversize folder contains additional awards and certificates and two group photos of hospital staff, one at Philadelphia General Hospital. This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015. See more
