Israel Parsons daybooks

Scope and Contents
The collection contains eight daybooks, 1855-1894, and
one ledger, 1872-1904, documenting the medical practice of Israel
Parsons in Marcellus, New York, and surrounding Onondaga County.
The daybooks list patients, services or prescriptions, and
amount charged; occasional descriptions of cases are included.
The final three volumes in the series have occasional marginal
notes in shorthand. The ledger, organized by name of patient
with references to pages in the corresponding daybooks, is primarily
concerned with account reconcilation and settlement.

Biographical / Historical
Israel Parsons, Marcellus, N.Y., physician, was born in 1821.
He received an M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons,
New York, in 1848, and was a member of the New York State Medical
Society, Onondaga County Medical Society, and Syracuse Academy
of Medicine. Israel Parsons died on 20 or 24 March 1904.

The Israel Parsons daybooks and ledger were purchased through
a gift of the Samuel Lewis Circle by the Historical Collections
of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia from Carmen D.
Valentino in 1993.
