Scope and Contents

The Charles H. Clark, Apothecary, Collection contains prescriptions written by many physicians of the Center City and West Philadelphia areas which were filled by Charles H. Clark at his Philadelphia pharmaceutical firm. The prescriptions are filed in sequence by number assigned as filled; the sequence approximates chronological order. The prescriptions date from February through December, 1878, and February, 1906, through October, 1908.

Biographical / Historical

Charles H. Clark received his Ph.G. from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1872; his thesis was on saponification and saponification of castor oil. By 1878, Clark had opened a pharmaceutical business at 36th and Race Streets in Philadelphia. By 1887, the firm was at 201 N. 36th Street.

Charles H. Clark died on 14 October 1928.

The Charles H. Clark, Apothecary, Prescription Collection was donated to the Historical Collections of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia as part of a larger gift by Samuel X Radbill, circa April 1984.
