Biographical / Historical

William John Shaw, Scottish ophthalmic surgeon, was born on 7 Dec. 1855. He died at Skelmerlie Hydropathic on Clyde on 1 Jan. 1893. Shaw received his M.B. and C.M. from the University of Glasgow in 1878. He became House Surgeon at the Glasgow Eye Infirmary and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He was also Surgeon for Diseases of the Eye at Anderson’s College Medical School in Glasgow. Shaw became a Fellow of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1882 and was a member of the Glasgow Southern Medical Society and the British Medical Association.
