Scope and Contents
Ledger documenting medical practice of physician R. H. Patterson in Somerset Co., Pa., from 1844 to 1849. Each account contains chronological list of charges and payments; several accounts remained unsettled until 1852. Many patients identified by profession or relationship to other individuals. Ledger also includes notes on volumes loaned to other physicians by R. H. Patterson.

Biographical / Historical
Robert H. Patterson, of Somerset, Pa., attended lectures in the Department of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania during the 1843-1844 academic year. He opened his practice in Somerset Co., circa 1844. From at least 1874, Patterson's practice was based in Stoyestown and, in 1885, shared with his son. R. H. Patterson appears to have died circa 1890.
