Scope and Contents Volume contains notes taken by an unnamed student on lectures of Philip Syng Physick on surgery, probably in the Department of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, circa 1805. The lectures are numbered 1-14 in part 1 and 15-26 in part 2. Major subjects are: inflammation; ulcers; the treatment of fractures, wounds, and head injuries; diseases of the eye and cataract surgery; and amputation. Index to subjects included in part 2.

Overview Oliver Wendell Holmes was an American physician, poet, and humorist notable for his medical research and teaching, and as the author of the “Breakfast-Table” series of essays. He was born in 1809 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and died in 1984. He received his M.D. in 1836 from Harvard Medical School. Scope and Contents This collection consists of photographs, negatives, pencil drawings, and other images related to Dr. Oscar Batson's work. It was donated to the Mütter Museum by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Batson, along with numerous medical instruments and pathological specimens. The collection of photographs was transferred to the Library on September 22, 2016.

Otto Scheller records

Overview Otto Scheller was born in Bohemia/Czechoslovaka/Austria on 29 June 1881, and immigrated to the United States in 1911. On 14 December 1928, he was admitted to Philadelphia State Hospital (locally known as "Byberry") against his wishes. Doctors Irving and Burr diagnosed Scheller as having "true paranoia" after interviewing him and his sister-in-law, with whom he lived; and inspecting the packages of petitions and correspondence, presumably copies of what Scheller had sent to the various courts....
