The Collection contains a single volume, 1862-1919, originally used as a patient register for wounded U.S. Civil War soldiers recovering at Philadelphia (Pa.) area military and civilian hospitals. It was later used as a scrapbook for newspaper clippings. The patient register is in the handwriting of wartime nurse Hiram J. Noyes. Scope and Contents
The collection contains two account books, 1831-1873, documenting the medical practice of Dr. William Wilson Rutherford, 1805-1873, and, in part, Dr. A. T. Dean, d. 1834. Items found interleaved in the account books were removed and placed in folders. The first account book, 1831-1841 (Bulk 1832-1836), is most likely from the period when Dr. Rutherford practiced medicine with Dr. Dean in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
