The Collection contains a single volume, 1862-1919, originally used as a patient register for wounded U.S. Civil War soldiers recovering at Philadelphia (Pa.) area military and civilian hospitals. It was later used as a scrapbook for newspaper clippings. The patient register is in the handwriting of wartime nurse Hiram J. Noyes. Collection of Civil War documents contains five items from Union soldiers during the Civil War. Those items include a letter from Union Pvt. Edward James White to his sister, dated August 28, 1864. Pvt. White belonged to Pennsylvania’s 8th cavalry. Along with this letter are a typed transcription, historical comments, and a brief biography of Pvt. White provided by Cohasco, Inc. The collection contains two account books, 1831-1873, documenting the medical practice of Dr. William Wilson Rutherford, 1805-1873, and, in part, Dr. A. T. Dean, d. 1834. Items found interleaved in the account books were removed and placed in folders. The first account book, 1831-1841 (Bulk 1832-1836), is most likely from the period when Dr. Rutherford practiced medicine with Dr. Dean in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
