Deed of trust, 1914 Jan. 3, between the Trustees of the Nathan Lewis Hatfield Prize and Lectureship of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and executors of the Hatfield estate, amending the 1898 original document. The amendment allows the trust to be used to fund a lectureship rather than a prize for original research in medicine.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains notarized deeds of gift which were
filed and preserved by the treasurer, 1924-1953, for items
presented to the College of Physicians of Philadelphia for
the Mutter Museum or College Collections, Deeds for items
falling under the provisions of the Mutter Trust specify this
condition. Occasional inforaation on provenance and some
related letters are included.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains the first deed of trust, 2 February
1850, between the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and
the Trustees of the Building Fund; the continuation of the
deed of the trust, 9 February 1859; and a report, 1 February
1861, of the trustees concerning the purchase of a lot
adjoining the College premises at 13th and Locust streets.

Edward H. Dixon (1808-1880) was a New York City surgeon. Dixon earned his M.D. from Rutgers Medical College in 1829 or 1830, and then studied material medica, theory and practice, and therapeutics under Dr. John Francis; and surgery under Dr. Alexander Mott. Afterwards, Dixon accepted positions at the Deaf and Dumb Asylum and House of Refuge.
