 File — Box: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The collection contains reports, generally undated, documenting the work of the Committee on the Revision of the Pharmacopoeia, 1877-1880. Each report, filed alphabetically by Latin name, concerns a specific preparation or substance and defines, describes, and details the method of producing the substance. Several items are noted with the date of committee approval; others are recommended for omission. The reports are written by members of the committee, specifically, John B. Biddle, Robert Bridges, I. Minis Hays, Samuel Lewis, J, J. Reese, and W. S. W. Ruschenberger. The reverse of each report contains a number, referring to the page in the committee's minute book (CPP 11/0001-01) where the report is considered. Included is a printed circular from the American Pharmaceutical Association, dated 1877 Oct. 15, describing the 1880 revision project.

The last two folders in the box, the "Standing Committee on Materia Medica report" and "Correspondence and reports" were discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015. They were added to the collection in the summer of 2018.
