Biographical / Historical

Montague Richard Leverson (1830 March 2-1925 September 26) was a British lawyer and homeopathic physician known for his controversial opinions. He emigrated to the United States in 1867 and obtained his medical degree in 1893 from Baltimore Medical College. He was strongly opposed to vaccination, serving as the secretary for the Anti-Vaccination Society of America and the President of the Brooklyn Anti-Compulsory Vaccination League. Leverson also denied the germ theory of disease and was an anti-vivisectionist. He published “Inoculations and the Germ Theory of Disease” and Pasteur the Plagiarist: The Debt of Science to Béchamp, both in 1911. Leverson returned to the United Kingdom in 1900 and died in 1925.
